Pimsleur Language Aptitude Battery
If you’re interested in learning a new language, and are considering the Pimsleur method, you might be wondering what level of language proficiency you will achieve when you finish the series.
Pimsleur courses will take you up to the Intermediate-High level of the ACTFL (American Council on the Teaching of ForeignLanguages) Spoken Language Profiency chart.
The technical statement of the ACTFL regarding the intermediate high proficiency level is that the studen is “…able to handle successfully most uncomplicated communicative tasks and social situations.” The student at this level can also “… initiate, sustain, and close a general conversation with a number of strategies appropriate to a range of circumstances and topics…”
At the end of the 3 Pimsleur courses(90 lessons), the student will have approximately 1,200 words of vocabulary and well on their way to an increasing level of communication in the language of their choice.
